The relationship between problems and solutions is complicated
You'll be okay as long as you and your team strive to create a safe space to fail and learn.
“We can’t be brave in the big world without at least one small safe space to work through our fears and falls.”
~ Brene Brown
The relationship between problems and solutions is always complex.
Navigating challenges is inherently demanding and rarely straightforward.
Be cautious of shortcuts.
Do not get mesmerized by any captivating solution right in front of you.
Often, deep inside, you feel unsure of the problem you and your team are solving. You all feel puzzled.
It’s okay to debate with your teammates as long as you are all striving for the same goal. Create a safe space for a good fight.
Challenge others' perspectives.
Practice humility.
Ask and reflect on: “What people's problem are we solving here?” – it may seem a dumb question that you are often hesitant to ask when an alluring solution is around the corner.
Moreover, take one step backward, and ask yourself and your team: 'How do you know this is a real problem worth solving?
Question: "How will you know if you have solved the problem?"
It’s okay to say, "I don't know," as long as it fuels curiosity for you and your team. Create a safe space to learn and fail.
And remember, it all takes time.
To untangle messy and knotted balls of yarn, focus on one knot at a time, gently untie it, and then move on to the next.
It’s okay to take one small step at a time perfectly fine as long as you progress consistently daily. Create a safe space to value the process.
It’s a marathon.
Here is the mindset to adopt:
Create a safe space within your team. Make them do the same.
