Hey, everyone! I'm piloting a new section called Visual Vault, where I'll be sharing cool apps, websites, and products that can support you in nurturing your visual, artistic, and creative side. It could be on a weekly or bi-weekly basis; I haven't decided yet! I aim to be very selective in curating the content. Enjoy!
Did apps get so boring? I guess the way we see apps isn't the same for Andy Allen, who was born and raised in Alaska and happens to be a former designer of Apple's App of the Year, "Paper by Fifty Three."
So, after the Fifty Three journey, besides making furniture in his woodworking shop, Andy and his co-founder, Mark Dawson, focused on building apps that are not just another app with more buttons; he wanted apps that excel at doing one thing exceptionally well, with boldness and clarity. No menus, no unnecessary features—just swipe and tap.
Andy's simple premise is "Built like games, run like apps." He combines 3D, animation, physics, haptics, and sounds to create the most captivating and beautiful app ever. Their efforts pay off. (Not Boring) Habit won an Apple Design Award in 2022.
According to Andy, it's not just a habit tracker app but also a habit builder, he says, "We try to think about it as loving the journey of creating a new habit." It's akin to a video game with 66 levels, inspired by research that indicates it takes 66 days to establish a new habit.
Without further ado, here's the (Not Boring) Habit app.
